Circle, Spiral
Recently, I was given the opportunity to share my practice with someone who is beginning their own journey into practicing shiatsu. I love being asked to return to the very beginning of a process. Returning to the foundations is a beautiful way of reinvigorating - of reminding myself why I do what I do. In work, there is always repetition, and energy can dissipate with repetition when the forces outside are not matched by an internal motivation - a wheel slows down, a swing comes to a stop sooner or later, but when there is equal or greater energy coming from within, repetition can also increase and hone the purpose and precision and understanding in that work.
Returning to the foundations always supports me in clarifying and distilling my intentions before each session and allows me to direct my innate healing energy - an energy present in all of us - towards its purpose, thus strengthening and tuning it towards the person I am working with, and encouraging the repetition inherent in this work to build energy and wisdom for myself and my client.
What are the foundations of the work that you do? How can you turn circular repetition into a spiral of continual learning, investigation and curiosity?
